Luggage Storage on Khaosan Road & the Old City

Khaosan Road is backpacker HQ — and a bit of a luggage puzzle, because it sits in the Old City, off Bangkok’s BTS/MRT grid. The good news: storage shops (some with showers) line the strip and the lanes around it, and once your bag is down, the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the river are all within walking distance. Here’s how to do it.

Where to store luggage on and around Khaosan

  • Staffed shops — luggage-storage counters run along Khaosan and the quieter Rambuttri lanes; flat daily rates, any bag size.
  • Shower-and-store spots — a Khaosan speciality: drop your bag and grab a shower, perfect off an overnight bus or before a late flight.
  • Book-ahead spots — reserve one near the strip so it’s waiting, guaranteed and all-in. Expect roughly ฿80–150/day around here.
  • Lockers are scarce — the automated station lockers cluster around the BTS/MRT, and the Old City has neither, so staffed storage is the move here.

Getting around — the river, not the train

Khaosan is off the rail grid — the Chao Phraya Express Boat is your fast link to the rest of the city.

Khaosan has no BTS or MRT of its own. Your quickest link into the rail network is the river:

  • Walk to Phra Arthit Pier (N13) and take the Chao Phraya Express Boat — to Sathorn Pier for the BTS (Saphan Taksin), Tha Chang for the Grand Palace, or Ratchawong for Chinatown.
  • Tuk-tuks, taxis & buses — plentiful, but agree the fare or use a ride app; traffic in the Old City is slow.
  • Nearest MRT — the Blue Line stations Sanam Chai and Sam Yot are a short ride south, handy for the Old City and Chinatown.

What to see once your bag is down

Bags down, hands free — the Old City’s temples and markets are right on the doorstep.

This is the walkable heart of old Bangkok. With your bag stored you can reach, mostly on foot:

  • The Grand Palace & Wat Pho — the reclining Buddha and the royal complex, a 15–20 minute walk south.
  • Wat Arun — a short cross-river ferry from Tha Tien.
  • Riverside & markets — Phra Athit’s cafés, the amulet and flower markets, and the lanes themselves.

Arriving early or leaving late? The backpacker reality

Off an overnight bus or facing a late flight — store, shower, and reclaim your day.

Khaosan runs on overnight buses and budget flights, so you’ll often land early or leave late with hours to kill and nowhere to put your pack. Store it (a shower-and-store spot gives you a rinse too), see the Old City, and collect on your way out. Heading to the airport after? See the airport storage guide; long gap between flights? The layover guide has you covered.
